Sonic Omega meets Sonic Advance Network!
wowza.
this was a lot of fun to do.
For those unaware, Sonic Advance Network is - or was - a Scratch game, based on the Genesis Sonic Engine. It was to my knowledge the first ever online multiplayer version of GSE. or rather, it was a SEQUEL to that first game. MMOGSE was my original vision for my online sonic game, and I'm hoping that some of that vision can still shine through in SAN. (That's right Digihub fans, stay tuned!)
SAN was created for the same reason as Minecraft Bedrock Edition:
Spaghetti code.
dun dun duuuuuuun!
The code of MMOGSE is, well... hot garbage. everything is delayed by 1 frame at the most, sometimes 3, which can be devastating when you consider that the game is only running at 30 FPS. Making a new game with just a bit of that old code would solve this problem, right?
...right?
Well, it did until it all became spaghetti code again.
It wasn't until recently when Iearned how to do online multiplayer in my favorite engine, Construct 3, that I realized the potential for SAN to switch to C3. a full chat, easier to debug multiplayer data, infinite players, a better animation system, an actually usable level system...
I think it's time for SAN to advance.
